Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has signed a new long-term contract with the Premier League club.
Arsenal were said to have made two bids for the Brazil international during the last transfer window, with reports suggesting the Gunners second offer of £23million fell some way short of Villa s £40m valuation.
Luiz s previous contract with Steven Gerrard s side was set to expire at the end of this season, and the 24-year-old was also linked with Serie A champions Milan.
However, Luiz has agreed a new deal to remain Villa Park, where he arrived in 2019 following a two-year spell at Manchester City.
He told the club s official website: I love this club. This club opened the door for me when I came to England to play in the Premier League. I m so happy b…

Spurs are 10 points ahead of United in the Premier League table despite not spending during the previous transfer window.

“You think of the last five or six years under Pep and all the travelling they’ve done, all the things they’ve won, all the competitions, I’m not saying they are used to everything and this is probably slightly different, but at the end of the day I don’t think, I might be wrong, that they are travelling economy!
“I think they’ll be well looked after, so I won’t over-egg the physical side of it and they have so many good players, I still think they will put out a side that is a very strong side.
“And if it does help, then great and we’ll take all the help we can get but the main focus will be on us performing and not too much focus on them and what they have to do.
“In my experience of Man City, whenever you think of moments like that (poor …

Jose Mourinho was involved in a furious touchline bust-up after Ross Barkley struck a last-gasp equaliser to hand Chelsea a 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
Mourinho appeared on course to record a first victory as United boss at his old club thanks to Anthony Martial, the Frenchman’s brace overturning a half-time deficit.
Martial volleyed home to cancel out Antonio Rudiger’s 21st-minute header before curling in what looked like being the winner from the edge of the penalty area.
However, substitute Barkley – a major injury doubt for the fixture – made sure Maurizio Sarri avoided his first league defeat as Chelsea boss by smashing home a rebound in the sixth and final minute of additional time.
