New Roma manager Rudi Garcia plans to lead the club back into European competition and get the better of rivals Lazio.
The Frenchman comes into the Stadio Olimpico after interim manager Aurelio Andreazzoli was sacked for his failure to get the Serie A side into Europe, shortly after coach Zdenek Zeman was also shown the door.
And Garcia has revealed he cannot wait to get going and will immerse himself with life in the Italian capital.
I don t speak Italian yet, but I understand almost everything, as I speak Spanish, he told Gazetta dello Sport.
I know it is very important to express yourself in the home language for various reasons. You ll see that I will be fluent soon.
As I said at my presentation in New York, I am a faithful person. I hope to stay at Roma for a long time, just as I did at Lille.
Garcia managed Lille between 2008 and 2013, a period during which he won the double of the Ligue 1 title and Coupe de France in 2011.
Winning trophies is also integral to his plans as he prepares for his first season at Roma, as is gaining local bragging rights by defeating Lazio.
I know the people first of all expect Roma to get back into Europe. That is a fundamental step and we will achieve it. I am certain that we ll be back in the cup competitions soon, though I am also coming here to try to win a trophy, Garcia added.
I know how much the derby means in Rome and that the most important thing for the fans is to beat Lazio. I am fully aware of how much weight those results carry for the Giallorossi supporters. We will not lose.
