Lithuania coach quits to launch political career

Lithuania coach Algimantas Liubinskas has quit his job to concentrate on campaigning for a seat in parliament, the Baltic state s football federation announced on Monday.

In a statement on its website, the Lithuanian federation said Liubinskas had officially handed in his resignation, ending weeks of speculation about his future after pressure from the country s footballing body.

Liubinskas, 56, said he regretted having been forced to choose between his sporting career and political future.

I will try to continue to work for the development of football, and for sport as a whole from the benches of parliament if elected in the October 12 parliamentary polls, he told fans website futbolas.lt.

Gracia hopes FA Cup final is not Gomes´ last game

Watford head coach Javi Gracia wants goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes to reconsider his plans to retire after the FA Cup final.

In March, Gomes said in an interview on Watford s website he was 99 per cent sure 2018-19 would be his last season.

Pachuca midfielder Hector Herrera is nearing a switch to Porto, the Mexican club have confirmed.

The talented midfielder has been followed by the Dragons for quite a while now and he even revealed in January that he would be joining the Portuguese giants in the summer transfer window.

Magath appointed new Shandong coach

Felix Magath has been appointed the new coach of Chinese Super League outfit Shandong Luneng following the resignation of Mano Menezes. 

Menezes took over at the start of the 2016 season but two wins from their first 11 games has the club sitting in the relegation zone. 

Magath was confirmed as his replacement on Wednesday, taking over for the rest of the CSL season.

The South Korea international has been a long-term target for the Premier League club, after impressing in Scotland side since joining Celtic in 2010.
